Training Curriculum

Step 1: Self-Assessment
In Step 1, counselors will learn how to determine if a client has the skills and personality suited for running a small business using a simple self-assessment tool.
Step 2: Business Idea
Here, counselors will learn how to determine if their client’s business idea is viable and likely to succeed in the market today.
Step 3: Market Research & Analysis
Step 3 will show how counselors guide clients through the process of conducting market research, identifying who will buy, why, and for how much.
Step 4: Management Skills
Step 4 teaches what essential management skills are required for running a successful business venture. Counselors will be given tools for helping their clients identify and develop these skills on their own.
Step 5: Business Planning
In this step, counselors will learn how to guide clients to create a business plan that summarizes their goals and the strategies they will use to achieve them.
Step 6: Forecasting
Step 6 will train counselors on how to use and implement the interactive forecasting template to be used as clients test the financial viability of their business ventures.
Step 7: Financing
Step 7 will show counselors how to ensure that their client has a clear understanding of the financial requirement of starting and running a successful business.
Step 8: Resource Network
In Step 8, counselors will be trained on how to use and navigate the Network of assistance programs that their clients can rely on to provide further support as they launch and grow their business venture.
Step 9: Business Launch
Here counselors will learn how to determine if their client is ready for the final step of launching a business, ensuring that all permits, licenses, and other requirements have been met.
Step 10: Monitoring Progress
In this final step, counselors will be given tools to help them effectively monitor their client’s progress after launch and provide continued support.


Coaching Materials & Processes

This training program includes a Teaching/Counselor’s Guide containing instructions, worksheets and supporting references. Student participation is facilitated either through a workbook or online interactive platform.
